Juli 1676, war eine der bekanntesten Giftmörderinnen der Kriminalgeschichte. Verurteilt wurde sie wegen der Vergiftung ihres Vaters, ihrer zwei Brüder und des Versuchs, ihre Schwester zu ermorden. Diese Morde beging sie unter Mithilfe ihres Geliebten, des Chevaliers Godin de Sainte-Croix. Weitere Giftmorde und Mordversuche wurden ihr nachgesagt, aber nie stichhaltig bewiesen.

In der 4. Folge unserer Reihe lesen wir von Tepedelenli Ali Pascha (* um 1741; † 5. Februar 1822) war ein osmanischer Pascha albanischer Abstammung und beherrschte große Teile des damals osmanischen Albaniens und Griechenlands. Mit etwa 30 Jahren genoss er das Wohlwollen des Sultans, nachdem er seine Diebesbande verraten hatte und den Soldaten des Sultans ihre Lage verriet. 1797 unternahm er einen Angriff auf Himara, das von den christlich-orthodoxen Sulioten gehalten wurde. Mehr als 6000 Menschen starben, und Ali Pascha siegte über die Sulioten. Für diesen mutigen Akt erhielt er von der Hohen Pforte den Beinamen Aslan (Löwe). Seit 1807 herrschte Ali Pascha von Ioannina aus faktisch unabhängig von der Hohen Pforte. Seine Armee umfasste um 1815 ca. 100.000 Mann. Er paktierte mit den Aufständischen der griechischen Unabhängigkeitsbewegung. Für seine Untreue wurde er 1820 von Sultan Mahmud II. geächtet. Am 5. Februar 1822 wurde er bei einem Treffen mit Abgesandten des Kriegsministers Kurschid Pascha auf der Insel im See von Ioannina ermordet.

Im Lederschuh rechts vor der Lassoleine steckte ein schweres Winchestergewehr, in dessen hellen Kolben mit dunklerem Holz die beiden großen Buchstaben L S eingelegt waren.Der Reiter war der Texaner Luke Short.Es gab in den 80er Jahren zwischen dem Golf von Mexico und der Grenze Canadas, zwischen dem breiten Missouristrom und der Küste Californias sicher keinen echten Mann, der seinen Namen nicht gekannt hätte.Der Hüne war auf dem Ritt nach Süden. Er hatte seine beiden Freunde, den berühmten Marshal Earp und seinen Gefährten Doc Holliday, bis zur Grenze von Oklahoma gebracht und ihnen zuvor noch in einem Gefecht in der kleinen Oklahomastadt Gray beistehen können.Luke Short war ein Abenteurer reinsten Geblüts. Früher war er lange Jahre Horse Boy (Pferde-Cowboy) gewesen, hatte sich dann als Schwellenleger bei der Bahn verdingt, war der Führer eines Sprengkommandos in einem Silberbergwerk, war Lokführer, Rodeo-Reiter, Treckführer, Trail-Boß und sogar Sheriff gewesen. Auch hatte er schon mit seinem Freund Earp oben in den Bergen Colorados als Woodcutter (Holzfäller) gearbeitet.Die Overlandstreet führte durch leicht hügeliges, nur zuweilen mit Büschen besetztes Land, dessen Eintönigkeit hin und wieder durch eine der riesigen Turmkakteen unterbrochen wurde.Die Stadt Perryton lag bereits vier Meilen hinter ihm, und die Straße führte immer noch schnurgerade dem fernen Canadian entgegen. Jetzt tauchten rechts und links Tecarillabüsche und auch Mesquitegestrüpp auf. Im leichten Galopp zog der starke Rapphengst über den sandigen Boden dahin.Plötzlich, bei einer riesigen Turmkaktee, ging durch den Körper des Tieres ein Ruck.
